The St George Illawarra Dragons advised on Friday that Russell Packer will begin work as a Community Development Officer for the Club, continuing with his ongoing rehabilitation program.

Dragons Community programs have the objectives to support and encourage people, especially youth, to make positive choices around health, education and other social issues.

It also promotes rugby league as a means of delivering health benefits, promoting positive social interaction and to use the profile and strength of the Dragons Brand to assist selected local charities and associations.

Packer will have a key focus in the Club’s mentoring programs that work with identified “Youth at Risk”.

He will also undertake further mentoring within the Dragons Junior Representative and National Youth Competition squads on a regular basis.

Outside of work hours Packer will continue to train individually and with the Illawarra Cutters as well as continue his personal education and welfare programs.
