The Illawarra Cutters defeated the Newcastle Knights 26-0 at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Saturday.

On a day that celebrated that was used as a tribute to St George legend, Reg Gasnier, the Cutters used this as motivation to record a convincing victory.

Illawarra were fast out of the gate. Within two minutes, Illawarra had their first try through winger Tyrone Cranston.

A sweeping play from left to right saw the winger score in the corner.

Only six minutes later, Cranston had his second for the game and sixth try in two games.

A cut-out pass from five-eighth Drew Hutchison found Cranston who slipped but still managed to score out wide.

It was all the home side early and in the 12th minute after a flick-pass from centre Nathan Smith, winger Kiti Glymin scored in the corner.

Cutters lock Kyle Stanley kicked his first for the afternoon to extend the lead to 14-0.

Ten minutes prior to the break, Newcastle produced an error to put the home side on the attack.

From the resulting set, second-rower Nathan Green popped an inside ball to Kyle Eather who ran through the defence to score.

Cranston had the easy task of kicking from right in the front to make it 20-0.

It was a tighter affair in the second half and took until five minutes from full-time for the next points to be scored.

Cutters captain Green received the ball near the touchline and used his strength to power over.

Cutters halfback Sam Duggan had the conversion from out wide and was successful to give the Cutters a 26-0 lead.
