St George Illawarra Dragons five-eighth Gareth Widdop is confident the team can continue their victories when they clash with the North Queensland Cowboys at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Saturday.
The England international was eager to prove his worth and test his skills against his former club when he ran out in the Red V against the Melbourne Storm on Monday night.
The 25-year-old is focused on remaining consistent and solidifying his on-field relationship with new recruit and halves partner, Benji Marshall, in the coming rounds.
“The Storm game was a test to see where we’re at during this time of the season; they’re a great team and to get the two points in that game will build a lot of confidence,” said Widdop.
“We’ve been working on cleaning up our playing styles and that really showed in our last match, we just have to remain consistent.
“A halves good combination always takes time to form and I’ve been playing alongside Benji for four or five weeks now.
“We’re moving in the right direction and our game against the Cowboys will be a good indicator of our progress.
“We are taking every week as they come and we want to go out there and win; we can see ourselves in the Finals this season.
“We have a good opportunity to begin our run to the Finals when we play the Cowboys at home on Saturday.
“We need to keep building as we go and keep our confidence up.”
