St George Illawarra Dragons halfback Michael Witt has successfully had surgery to his injured ACL and will commence his rehabilitation program immediately.

The Newtown Lions junior, who has been ruled out for the season, sustained the ailment while representing the Illawarra Cutters in the win over the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks during round 13.

“Michael has successfully had surgery to reconstruct his torn ACL and will commence his rehabilitation process immediately,” said Dragons Performance Director Andrew Gray.

“It is disappointing that we won’t have Michael for the rest of the season as part of the playing squad but he is a professional individual and I’m sure he will treat his rehabilitation the way he does his preparation.”

Additionally, Dragons prop Matt Groat will be monitored following an ankle sprain sustained whilst also representing the Cutters against the Mt Pritchard Mounties on Saturday.

“Matt’s ankle sprain is relatively minor so we will monitor him throughout this week to get him back on his feet and moving again sooner rather than later,” said Gray.

“He will be unavailable for the next two weeks to give him enough time to recover.”
