Game day guide: Round 22 v Raiders

The St George Illawarra Dragons travel to the nation's capital to meet the Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium on Sunday, August 14th. This is your Round 22 game day guide.

Local junior notches century

Local Dapto Canaries junior Blake Lawrie will play his 100th NRL match this weekend, all of which have come at St George Illawarra.

The man affectionally known as Blocka debuted for the Dragons in 2017 but it wasn't until 2019 when he became a regular front-rower in the NRL.

The 25-year-old has been one of the Dragons' best this season with his tireless work in the middle.

Expect Lawrie's teammates to erupt with joy if the renown try-scoring freak is able to cross the line for the second time in his career during his 100th NRL match.

Hunt 100 up for Red V

Ben Hunt's form this season has been something to behold, and he'll notch up another impressive feat on Sunday when he plays his 100th match for the Dragons.

The crafty halfback from Dingo has been instrumental for the Dragons since his arrival in 2018 and is showing no signs of slowing down.

In 2021, the State of Origin and Australian regular was named captain of the Dragons and has taken the responsibility in his stride.

With just 14 matches remaining until he joins the exclusive 300 club, Hunt will want to remember his 100th Red V appearance fondly.

Good and bad news for the Molos

Two big outs for the Red V has caused a reshuffle in the forward pack ahead of Sunday's match.

Tariq Sims (suspension) and Francis Molo (ribs) have been ruled out and will be replaced by Tyrell Fuimaono and Billy Burns. Forward Michael Molo will start for the first time in his career while Josh McGuire has been named in the back row as a result.

Exciting young guns Cody Ramsey (knee) and Jayden Sullivan (shoulder) are lurking in the reserves and could be a late inclusion to the side.

Raiders in Sticky situation

The Green Machine have suffered a big loss to their forward pack with Joe Tapine also succumbing to a rib injury. Tapine will be replaced in the starting side by Emre Guler, with Corey Horsburgh returning to the bench after a successful return from illness last weekend.

Xavier Savage returns to the team at fullback this weekend after recovering from an ankle injury, with Jordan Rapana shifting back to the wing.

Raiders head coach Ricky Stuart will miss the match while he serves a one game suspension following comments he made last week.

Do or die

Sunday's match takes extra significance for both sides as they desperately try to keep their finals hopes afloat.

The Dragons need to secure the two points to stay in the hunt while the Raiders are only one win ahead on 22 points.
