St George Illawarra coach Anthony Griffin has trimmed his squad to 19 ahead of the Dragons' Round 4 clash against the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday, April 4.

For the seventh-straight season, St George Illawarra and Newcastle will play for the Alex McKinnon Cup.

Andrew McCullough will skipper the Dragons for the first time in the absence of captain Ben Hunt (fibula fracture).

In somewhat positive news, following further consultation it's hoped Hunt will be back playing within four weeks.

Brayden Wiliame will start in the centres following Jack Bird's suspension. Jackson Ford has been named in the Dragons' 17 for the first time in 2021.

Kaide Ellis and Jordan Pereira join Max Feagai and Eddie Blacker as the players to drop out of the initial 21-man squad named on Tuesday
