St George Illawarra Dragons utility Kurt Mann is unsure which position he may play on the field come the start of the new campaign.

The Winton Devils juniors is one several players presently linked with the team’s vacated halfback role but he admits his thoughts at present are with injured teammate Drew Hutchison.

Hutchison had been the forerunner to link with captain Gareth Widdop in the halves but succumbed to a harrowing ACL injury during training which will now see him sidelined for at least six months.

Mann himself has been training in a number of positions since the commencement of his pre-season training program and will play wherever he is instructed.

“It was really bad news for the Club as Drew is such a great bloke and all the boys love him,” said Mann.

“To see something like that happen to a bloke like Drew is bad and it really shook a few of the boys up.

“It now opens up a new opportunity and there are a lot of blokes have put their hand up so there’s competition.

“I haven’t really set any long-term goals at the moment but I do plan to sit down with the coach and nut a few things out about positions and what I want to do.

“I have trained in a few different positions this pre-season and still not sure where I will be playing at the moment myself.

“At the moment I’m just trying to get through the pre-season sessions as they are pretty tough sessions and we’re getting flogged.

“I actually missed the first week of pre-season but I heard it was very tough and that a few of the boys were whinging about it.”
