Dragons and Squadron Energy celebrate three years of community impact with final Regional Blitz

The St George Illawarra Dragons and major partner Squadron Energy will celebrate three years of shared success with a final Regional Blitz, bringing the club’s popular health, wellbeing and rugby league programs to communities throughout southern NSW.

The October 26-27 visit will see the Dragons travel from Darlington Point to Deniliquin, with 10 schools participating in the club’s Best You Can Be program or a League Tag Gala Day, and the partnership’s seventh Win the Morning Walk in Deniliquin.

As a major partner for the past three years, Squadron Energy’s involvement has extended well beyond its prominent presence on the Dragons jersey, with community engagement, cultural initiatives and shared values underpinning a partnership that has delivered meaningful outcomes on and off the field.

Since joining forces, the Dragons and Squadron Energy have delivered 82 school engagements, reached 6,431 students, and provided young people with valuable education, inspiration, and opportunities to connect with the club.

Squadron Energy has been a key supporter of the Dragons Best You Can Be program, now in its 12th year, which encourages students to make positive choices about health, wellbeing and personal development.

The partnership has also supported significant cultural initiatives, including the club's historic Drawing Courage from Country and Community Indigenous jersey.

In a significant gesture of support for the initiative, Squadron Energy chose to forgo its prominent front-of-jersey branding in 2026, allowing the Indigenous artwork to be showcased in full.

Dragons CEO Tim Watsford thanked Squadron Energy for its commitment to the club and the communities it serves.

“Squadron Energy has been far more than a name on our jersey over the past three years. As our major partner, they’ve embraced the opportunity to make a genuine difference through rugby league, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together,” Watsford said.

“The true measure of a partnership is the impact it has, and together we've reached thousands of young people, strengthened our connections with regional communities and supported initiatives that make a genuine difference.

“Squadron Energy shares our belief in the importance of community engagement, and their commitment has helped us extend our programs and reach more people.

“Their support of our Indigenous jersey was another wonderful example of that shared commitment, putting the significance of the initiative and the story behind the artwork first.

“As we conclude this chapter of our partnership, we extend our sincere thanks to everyone at Squadron Energy for their support and contribution to the Dragons.

“We’re delighted to finish our time together doing what this partnership has always been about – connecting with communities and making a positive impact.”

Squadron Energy CEO Rob Wheals said the partnership has shown sport’s ability to create meaningful connections between organisations and the communities they serve.

“When we first partnered with the Dragons, we saw an opportunity to connect with communities in a way that went beyond traditional sponsorship.

“We’re proud to have helped the Community Blitz expand into new regions and communities. And a particular highlight this year was supporting the Dragons Indigenous jersey by letting the artwork shine. It’s been a pleasure to help bring important stories and experiences to life.

“The partnership has also been a source of pride for our people, giving our organisation opportunities to connect with communities through the shared passion and values of sport.

“We’re grateful to the Dragons for the partnership and proud of the impact we’ve made together.”
