St George Illawarra Dragons centre Tim Lafai is prepared to dig deep and produce in the opening round fixture against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park, Melbourne on Monday.

The Toa Samoa international is on the eve of making his first-grade club debut for the team and is keen to start on a positive with a strong performance against a traditionally defensive opposition.

Lafai overcame competition for his spot in the left three-quarters role from Peter Mata’utia and Euan Aitken and knows he will need to work hard to solidify the spot as his.

“I believe that this season I will need to take it up another level on the field,” said Lafai.

“I want to do that each week and hopefully remain injury free so I can play my role for the team.

“We’ve got some really good depth here at the Club with some good players who can attack which is something we have probably been missing in recent years.

“We have a back line which has the potential to create those big moments and score those points for the team.

“I am excited to be able to make my club debut for the Dragons after a long and tough pre-season.

“It will be a good challenge going up against the Storm but I know all the boys are ready for the challenge.”
