Dragons thank Peter Doust, welcome Peter King to the Board

The St George Illawarra Dragons confirm that long-serving director Peter Doust will step down from the club’s Board, with former Westpac Chief Executive Officer Peter King to succeed him.

Doust has made a significant contribution to the Dragons over several decades, including serving as Chief Executive Officer and later as a director, playing an important role during some of the club’s most memorable and formative periods.

Dragons Chairman Andrew Lancaster thanked Doust for his long-standing service and acknowledged his enduring connection to the Red V.

“Peter Doust has served the Dragons for many years, and his contribution to the club deserves to be acknowledged,” Lancaster said.

“He has been closely connected to the modern history of the Dragons, both as Chief Executive Officer and as a director, and has always had a deep passion for the Red V.

“On behalf of the Board, our members, supporters, players and staff, I thank Peter for his commitment to the club and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Doust said he was grateful for his time at the club and proud of the role he had played across the Dragons’ different eras.

“The Dragons have been a significant part of my life, and it has been a privilege to serve the club over many years,” Doust said.

“I have been fortunate to work with many dedicated people across the organisation and to share in moments that will always mean a great deal to me.

“I want to thank my fellow directors, the club’s staff, players, members and supporters for their passion and commitment, and I wish the Dragons every success for the future.”

The club also confirmed King’s appointment, who brings extensive executive leadership, governance and commercial experience to the Dragons Board.

King most recently served as Westpac Chief Executive Officer, leading one of Australia’s largest financial institutions through a period of significant change.

Lancaster said King’s appointment would further strengthen the Board as the club continues to prioritise performance and growth.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter King to the Dragons Board,” Lancaster said.

“Peter brings significant leadership experience from one of Australia’s largest and most prominent organisations, together with a deep understanding of governance, performance and long-term organisational success.”

“As we continue to strengthen the club on and off the field, Peter’s experience, connection and commercial background will be highly valuable.

“We are focused on building a strong, unified and successful future for the Dragons, and Peter’s appointment supports that direction.”

King said he was honoured to be joining the Board and looked forward to contributing to the club’s future.

“The Dragons are one of Australian rugby league’s great clubs, with a proud history, a passionate supporter base and an important role in the communities it represents,” King said.

“I am honoured to join the Board and look forward to working with Andrew, my fellow Directors and the club’s leadership team.

“There is a clear opportunity to lift performance whilst building strong foundations for the future, and I am excited to contribute to the next chapter of the Dragons.”
