St George Illawarra Dragons new-recruit Cameron McInnes is prepared for the healthy competition that will come with trying to claim the vacant hooker role as his own.

The Dragons presently have several options for the rake position with utilities Siliva Havili, Josh McCrone and Jake Marketo as well as the Botany Rams junior.

McInnes, 22, arrives at the Club on a two-year contract having previously been under contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs where he played 39 NRL games.

He in fact made his first-grade debut during the 2014 season against the Dragons and is looking forward to donning the Red V jersey when the opportunity comes.

“Before arriving I think Dragons were the team that I had come up against the most and I actually made my debut against them as well,” said McInnes.

“It’s always a physical game but they are also a fit side and during my time there have been a few battles.

“I’m looking forward to being on the other side of that now and getting to know the boys.

“It’s been great so far and having moved down to Wollongong I’m really enjoying it.

“Coming to a new club you always want to make your presence felt but all the boys have been open to me.

“A few guys in particular have made me feel very welcome including Joel Thompson as well as Tariq Sims who I am good buddies with.

“Russell Packer is another player who has welcomed me and no doubt that will continue as I become more familiar with everything down here.

“The goal for me though is to become the number one hooker here but I know there are others who can play that position which creates plenty of competition.

“I’ll be doing whatever I can to get that job though.”
