Dragons continue involvement in expanded DV Awareness Cup

The DV Awareness Cup will expand to two new locations this year, strengthening its reach and reaffirming the community’s commitment to ending domestic and family violence.

In its fourth year, the South Coast Police District DV Awareness Cup aims to bring awareness to, educate and encourage people to take a stand against domestic and family violence.

The South Coast PD, along with Group 7 Rugby League, NSW Rugby League and the NRL will host approximately 150 students from Year 9 to 11 from the Shoalhaven region, in a rugby league (men’s) and league tag (women’s) gala day on Thursday 11 June 2026 at Bomaderry Sporting Complex. For the first time, under 15’s will be able to play.

The event at Bomaderry Sporting Fields will see six local schools - St John the Evangelist Nowra will join Nowra High School, Vincentia High School, Shoalhaven High School, Bomaderry High School and Ulladulla High School– compete for the DV Awareness Cup.

During the day, Shoalhaven-based community organisations, along with NSW Police Domestic Violence Officers and youth liaison officers will be available at a number of stalls to educate and discuss with students and their families a range of issues, with an aim to break the cycle of domestic and family violence.

The DV Awareness Cup is now being rolled across the state, with Kogarah to host an event on Thursday 14 May 2026 and Newcastle on Thursday 4 June 2026.

South Coast Police District Sergeant Joel Latimer, said he’s excited to see the event expand beyond the South Coast.

“Over the past three years, we’ve seen the impact of the event on students and organisations across the South Coast and I’m really proud of the event South Coast PD has created, in conjunction with all of our government and non-government organisations. It’s great to see the DV Awareness Cup is expanding to two new locations, bringing lifesaving conversations about domestic and family violence to more communities than ever before,” Sergeant Latimer said.

For the first time, a community stakeholder forum will be held the night before the DV Awareness Cup, involving NSW Police and community and government organisations to share knowledge.

“Breaking down the cycle of domestic and family violence is a whole of community responsibility. This stakeholder forum will be provide an opportunity for NSW Police and organisations to share knowledge, build trust and strengthen the way agencies work together to support those at risk and victim survivors. The forum will show a united front, showing victimsurvivors that systems are connected and support is accessible,” Sgt Latimer said.

Past and present NRL players will be in attendance, with the community encouraged to come along, cheer on the students at Bomaderry Sporting Fields on Thursday 11 June 2026 and access support services.
