St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team prop Matt Jurd believes concentration is key against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Sunday.

The Young Dragons were narrowly defeated 34-32 by local rivals the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks which has seen them slump to fifth on the competition ladder.

Jurd admits the squad needs to rally to return to winning ways but notes he and his teammates are learning valuable lessons heading into the Finals Series.

“It was a really fast opening stage of the game but the boys came out to play but credit to the Sharks who kept completing and got us on the backfoot leading into half time,” said Jurd.

“A couple of silly errors from us as well as repeat sets by them got them in the win come fulltime.

“We had an attitude adjustment at halftime and knew we needed to pull our own weight and it was a much better half but not enough unfortunately.

“We need to concentrate on the field at all times and that needs to be applied during our training sessions as well.

“We are learning the hard lessons now heading into the Finals but they’ll be worth it in the end.

“Hopefully we can put this all into practice against the Roosters who will be pumped themselves playing at home.”
