Competition - NRL Premiership Round - Round 09 Teams – NZ Warriors v St George Illawarra Dragons Date – 1st of May 2016 Venue – Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, NZ Photographer – Shane Wenzlick

St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team prop Jacob Host is keen to continue recent momentum leading into the fixture against the Canberra Raiders at UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Thursday.

The local Renown United junior proudly ticked two goals off his personal checklist after being selected for the Junior Kangaroos as well as making his first-grade debut with the Dragons.

Host was a late call-up for the Red-and-Whites in their 26-10 loss against the New Zealand Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland last round before being named a day later in the representative squad.

“It was an unreal experience to play for my country and something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid,” said Host.

“It’s another stepping stone in my career which I’m proud of.

“The intensity was another level and obviously you have players who are great across the park as opposed to just having one or two.

“Everyone is quality and it just wants you to step-up your own game as well.

“My goal now is to be selected for the NSW U20 squad as that’s been another major goal for me and it would be another boxed ticked.

“It was a pretty cool experience too to make my first-grade debut as I’ve wanted to represent the Dragons as well since I was a little kid and something that I am proud of as well.

“Being able to play for this Club and being around these players will definitely help me improve my game.

“The lungs were burning though for a while after the game and I was still coughing during the coach’s post-game talk.”
