Standout quartet promoted to Top 30

The St George Illawarra Dragons can confirm that Joseph O’Neill, Setu Tu, Nick Tsougranis and Leeroy Weatherall have been promoted to the club’s Top 30 squad for the remainder of the season.

O’Neill initially signed a development contract with the club for this season having plied his trade at the Bulldogs over a number of seasons.

In nine Knock-On Effect NSW Cup appearances this season, the playmaker has scored five tries, assisted on five others, and kicked for 3,788 metres – the competition’s second-highest mark.

Tu, who made the move from New Zealand over the summer, made his NRL debut in the side’s Las Vegas season opener and has grown into a mainstay on the right wing having notched eight tries, 10 line breaks, 61 tackle breaks and 1,996 run metres – all team-high marks.

A former Under 19s State of Origin representative, Tsougranis made his NRL debut in Round 16, 2025 against the Sharks after an impressive run of form in the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.

Injuries have restricted the Arncliffe Scots junior to just five Knock-On Effect NSW outings this year, but he remains under contract with the club until at least the end of 2027.

Weatherall, who has spent the past two seasons training with the club’s NRL squad, transitioned up to Jersey Flegg level this season after a strong SG Ball campaign with Illawarra and is now rewarded with a promotion up to the top squad.
