Dragons second-rower Hamish Stewart was tonight named to the Dally M Team of the Year to cap off a dream individual season for the 22-year-old.
Stewart a fortnight ago became the youngest male player in club history to win the Dragons Medal and was the youngest player to be selected in this year’s Dally M Team of the Year.
Stewart was one of only two Dragons to play in every match this season, tallying five tries and nine try assists — the most by any non-hooking forward in the premiership — along with a competition-leading 996 tackles, 18 offloads and an average of 94 run metres.
Having debuted in last year’s season opener, Stewart has quickly established himself as one of the premiership’s hardest-working defenders and developed into a genuine attacking threat through his damaging ball-running, playmaking and aerial ability.
A Gerringong Lions junior and childhood Dragons supporter, Stewart progressed through the club’s pathways system with Illawarra spending two seasons playing Harold Matthews Cup and two seasons in SG Ball before making the jump up to Jersey Flegg level in 2023.
A skilful back rower, Stewart made his Knock-On Effect NSW Cup debut in mid-2023 and, in 2025, transitioned into the club’s NRL squad having spent the previous year on a development deal.
He was rewarded with an NRL debut in the side’s season opener against Canterbury and quickly developed into one of the game’s elite back rowers.
