Bomaderry Sports Complex today hosted the DV Awareness Cup with more than 200 students from Year 9 to 11 from across the Shoalhaven region competing in a rugby league gala day.
The Dragons joined forces with the NSW Police Force, community, and sporting and government agencies to educate school students about domestic and family violence through the initiative.
The DV Awareness Cup aims to bring awareness to, educate, and encourage people to take a stand against domestic and family violence.
Now in its fourth year, six schools were on hand for the day – St John the Evangelist Nowra, Nowra High School, Vincentia High School, Shoalhaven High School, Bomaderry High School and Ulladulla High School.
During the day, Shoalhaven-based community organisations, including Anglicare, Waminda, Southern Cross Housing and Care South joined NSW Police Domestic Violence Officers (DVOs) and Youth Engagement Officers (YEOs) to educate and discuss with students and their families a range of issues with an aim to break the cycle of domestic and family violence.
Dragons Cultural Strategy & Inclusion Officer Ben Murdoch-Masila was on hand alongside NRLW stars Ella Koster and Montaya Hudson Kangaroos and Blues legend Brad Fittler also stopped by.
