The Dragons are happy to announce that Trinity Tauaneai has signed a contract extension with the club.
The deal will keep Tauaneai at the Dragons until at least the end of the 2027 season.
The 18-year-old makes the leap up to the top squad for the first time having captained Illawarra’s Tarsha Gale Cup side to a Preliminary Final earlier this year.
Having grown up in Wellington, New Zealand and spent her junior days playing for the Wainuiomata Lions, Tauaneai moved across the ditch in 2023 to pursue her rugby league dream.
She earnt an Australian Schoolgirls nod in 2024 whilst at Bass Hill High School before starting at lock in Illawarra’s Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership Grand Final win.
“Trinity is a player who has shown plenty of promise coming through the grades and we’re excited she’ll be a Dragon for another few seasons,” Head Coach Nathan Cross said.
“She moves into our top squad this year after being on the development list last year. She’s started preseason on the right foot and will push for a debut this season.
“Trinity’s a terrific athlete; she has a big motor and an exceptional passing game for a middle forward. She captained Illawarra’s Tarsha Gale side this season with conviction. She has a big future in rugby league and we’re looking forward to watching her develop.”
Tauaneai added: “I’m so blessed and grateful to be extending my time here at the Dragons. I have faith in the people we have at the club and am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve over the coming years. I’ve been enjoying preseason with the girls and can’t wait to get out there on the field.”
