The St George District recently held the first ever Year 1 Dragon Tag Gala Day at Blakehurst's Todd Park for 150 primary school students from throughout the area.
The students, who hailed from Blakehurst Public School, Carlton South Public School, Connells Point Public School and Hurstville Grove Infants School, met NRL squad members Viliami Fifita and Alec Tuitavake as well as NRLW stars Tara McGrath-West and Tyla Nathan-Wong at the June 8 event.
The aim of the initiative is to introduce children to rugby league via a non-contact format and develop their fundamental skills.
The students took part in a skills clinic conducted by members of the club’s development staff before participating in a trio of games.
The development staff members also conducted skills clinics with the students prior to the day at their respective schools.

By the end of the day, the students were showcasing some impressive skills in front of the NRL and NRLW players and the development staffers.
In partnership with the local NRL Game Development, the Dragons are continuing to facilitate events across the regions.
A total of 12 Gala Days are being conducted from mid-May through to the end of June, including the Southern NSW Championships Regional Finals Day, Classic Shield days, PSSA events and a Reconciliation High School league tag event.
