The St George Illawarra Dragons are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former St George Dragons hooker Tony Townsend.
Townsend made his first grade debut with St George in 1985 and went on to make a further 15 appearances across three seasons.
The Dungog-born Townsend moved closer to home in 1988 as part of the Newcastle Knights' inaugural team. Townsend would play an additional 25 first grade games before retiring in 1990.
The St George Illawarra Dragons send their condolences to the family and friends of Townsend.
