St George Illawarra player No. 165 Gerard Beale will return to the Dragons with immediate effect for the remainder of the 2021 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

Beale, who spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons at the Red V, will provide a much-needed boost to the Dragons' diminished outside back stocks.

The 11-time New Zealand international has played 194 NRL games to date, including a premiership victory with the Cronulla Sharks in 2016.

The 30-year-old is currently playing for the Brisbane Tigers in Queensland's Intrust Super Cup.

The Dragons still have one spot remaining in their Top 30 for the 2021 season despite Beale's return.

"Gerard is a highly respected figure in our game. To sign someone of Gerard's character was an important factor in his recruitment," Dragons general manager of football Ben Haran said.

"Gerard's experience across his 12-year NRL career will be a handy addition to our club for the remainder of the season, given also the amount of young outside backs we have within our top squad currently.

"We have signed Gerard to a training contract in light of the injuries and suspensions our squad is currently faced with," Haran added.

"As of this week, NRL clubs are allowed to draw upon players outside of their Top 30 to play first grade."
