The young Dragons have secured a 21-16 win over the Newcastle Knights at UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights were the first team to score in the seventh minute when prop Cameron King barged over the white stripe.

Two tries in quick succession to winger Dane Francis quickly followed to put the Dragons back in the lead.

But it would be the Knights who would head into the break up when Kyle Smith scored in the 32nd minute.

The Knights continued where they left off in the second half when centre Heath Gibbs scored from an individual effort in the 49th minute.

The Dragons comeback began midway through the second half when five-eighth Tristan Sailor's line break helped Zac Lomax cross the line.

This was quickly followed by back-rower Jackson Ford who crashed over four minutes later to put the Dragons back in the lead – one they wouldn't let slip by game's end.

Sailor capped off the five-point win with a field goal in the dying seconds.

St George Illawarra Dragons 21 (Dane Francis 2, Zac Lomax, Jackson Ford tries; Zac Lomax 2 goals; Tristan Sailor field goal) defeated Newcastle Knights 16 (Cameron King, Kyle Smith, Heath Gibbs tries; Kainoa Gudgeon 2 goals) at UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah. Half-time: Knights 10-8.
