The St George Illawarra Dragons conducted several popular Dragon Tag events across their various regions recently.
This school term, the initiative proved the most popular and participated PSSA sport in the St George, Illawarra and South Coast districts due to it’s high levels of fast, interactive and enjoyable fun.
In November and December Dragons Community and NRL Development conducted:
Seven Dragon Tag Gala Days:
Botany Bay PSSA (750 students)
Brokers PSSA (280 students)
Southern NSW Christian Schools (270 students)
Wollongong Catholic Diocese (600 students)
Tongarra PSSA (450 students)
Central Wollongong (530 students)
Georges River PSSA (260 students)
Shoalhaven PSSA (450 students)
Four PSSA Weekly Competition Venues:
Central Wollongong PSSA (430 students)
North Wollongong PSSA (930 students across three venues)
Totalling in 5460 contacts.
This also provided an excellent opportunity to inform female participants about the new U10 League Tag Competition in Group 7 and Illawarra as well as the continuation of the U12, U14 and U16 League Tag in 2017.
In addition to the engagement of primary schools, the 11 events would not have been possible without the very successful Beyond the Goal Post program whereby local high school students attended each of the days to officiate games.
High schools participating 2016 were Corrimal HS, Cedars Christian College; Unanderra, Edmund Rice College; Wollongong, Kiama HS, Danebank College; Hurstville, Shoalhaven HS, Figtree HS, Bulli HS, Woonona HS and Christian Brother College Lewisham.
