St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team captain Patrick Herbert has warned his teammates to eradicate complacency in their Qualifying Finals fixture against the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Friday.

The Young Dragons notched a 26-16 victory over the Newcastle Knights in the final fixture of the regular competition season to finish third on the ladder but in Herbert’s mind the performance did not warrant the result.

The Junior Kiwi representative believes that despite the showing the team will be focused on the task ahead against a team who have not lost to the Young Dragons in either encounter this season.

“It was a disappointing performance against the Knights as I know we can do better and we did show signs of ill-discipline during that first half,” said Herbert.

“One of the highlights though was the hat trick to Paora Kemp who was on the wing and got himself some good ball and athleticism.

“I think everyone was focused on the fact we had qualified for the Finals and our concentration was more so on that more than anything.

“The Coach said so himself we showed signs of complacency so we will need to step it up, especially against a Cowboys team where we only secured one point from a possible four during the season.”
