St George Illawarra Dragons halfback Jack Payne has no doubt every player will be up for the local derby match against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at UOPW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Saturday.

The Young Dragons enter the match on the back of a narrow 16-12 loss to the Brisbane Broncos in wet and gusty conditions last round which the pivot admits the team needed to experience.

The Macarthur Saints junior has been a mainstay of the team this season alongside five-eighth Jai Field and believes it comes down to simply enjoying his football.

“I’m loving my training at the moment and enjoying the chance to play footy,” said Payne.

“The conditions weren’t what we were hoping for against the Broncos being wet and windy but the entire team dug deep and gave it their best go.

“We had a few new faces in the team and they all held their own out there and stepped up for all the boys.

“It was good to experience a game like that ahead of the finals where conditions were tough and we lost so we know what needs to be worked on come later on.

“We need to work on those things now against a tough Sharks team who will be up for the local derby like everyone here.”
