Illawarra Steelers SG Ball centre Zac Lomax is keen to test his mettle after being named in the NSW Blues U18 squad.

The St George Illawarra Dragons Junior Representative will join National Youth Competition team hooker Reece Robson in an 18-man squad named by Head Coach Brad Fittler to compete against the Queensland Maroons at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Wednesday.

Lomax has heaped praise on his new teammates ahead of the representative encounter but has singled out Fitler for helping to take his game to a new level.

“It’s been awesome inside camp and I’ve gotten to meet all the boys as well as the coaching staff who have been great,” said Lomax.

"We have learnt so much from them and when you have the likes of Brad Fittler backing you it’s a good feeling to have.

“I’ll be definitely taking back the experience of the game and the build-up to it back with me to the Dragons and hopefully transfer what I’ve learnt back to my teammates there.

“Fittler is one of those guys that you really want to play for and he certainly understands the game more than most people.

“I cannot wait to get out there and do my best for the boys as we represent NSW as well as my family who will be watching.”
