The St George Illawarra Dragons will defend the Alex McKinnon Cup against the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium, Newcastle on Saturday.

Head Coach Paul McGregor has named a travelling 17-man squad for the fixture which sees fullback Jason Nightingale continue his role as custodian and winger Kurt Mann named on the flanks.

Local Renown United junior Jacob Host has been named to partner Joel Thompson in the second-row while prop Dunamis Lui has been named on a four-man interchange bench.

Additionally, NSW Blues representative Tyson Frizell will undergo assessment later in the week following his State of Origin commitments on Wednesday.

The Alex McKinnon Cup is an annual fixture played for on the first occasion the two sides meet in a season.

McKinnon made his NRL debut at the Dragons in 2011 and went on to play three first-grade games before joining the Knights in 2012, where he made a further 46 appearances.
