St George Illawarra Dragons utility Jake Marketo is thankful to have the chance to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Thursday.

The Holy Cross Rhinos junior has been named in the second-row in lieu of the suspended Joel Thompson and is keen to build upon his previous outing against the Canberra Raiders last round.

Marketo has featured a total of three times so far this season but the statistic does not worry him as he admits his focus is playing his role in the team.

“It was a good experience being back at UOW Jubilee Oval and to be able to get some more minutes under the belt and the best thing about it was we got the win,” said Marketo.

“I was over the moon when told I would be playing as it has been a slow first ten rounds for me this season being only able to play three games and even then with limited minutes.

“To be told I would be playing a larger role and getting more minutes was exciting and I tried to do everything I could for the team.

“It’s not too different performing in first-grade or reserve grade as either way you want to be playing like a first-grader so you’re always trying your hardest.

“I just try to tick the boxes throughout the week heading into each game and by the weekend I am confident in what I can do.

“We’re going to have to build off what we did last round coming up against the Rabbitohs who includes guys like Sam Burgess who is no pushover.

“They’ll also be looking to build off their win against the Parramatta Eels last round so hopefully we can go out there and match it with them and come out on top.”

The Dragons will proudly wear their Indigenous jersey against the Rabbitohs with the unique design of the jerseys celebrating the indigenous culture within our communities.
