St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team lock Blake Lawrie is ready to show-off what he knows in the opening round fixture against the Melbourne Storm at Sunshine Coast Stadium, Kawana Waters on Sunday.
The local West Illawarra Devils junior was amongst a number of players fortunate enough to spend the pre-season training alongside the first-grade squad after being invited by Head Coach Paul McGregor.
Lawrie is thankful for the opportunity afforded to him and wants to share what he has learnt with his fellow teammates so that they too can grow as players.
“It was unreal having the chance to train alongside the first-grade boys and I am very thankful for the opportunity,” said Lawrie.
“A few players from the U20 team got the chance as well and we doing field work and strength conditioning alongside the senior players.
“It definitely gave me a taste of what I need to do to become a first-grade player and I hope to be able to share this on with some of the younger guys here in the squad.
“This is my second season with the team and it feels good to have a year under my belt now at this age-group knowing what to expect from some of the other teams.
“We have some great players in the team I am excited to see including centres Herbert and Reuben Garrick who both also had the same opportunity I had to train with the first-grade guys.
“I know they are thankful for the experience too and hopefully we can put what we have learnt into practice.”
