St George Illawarra Dragons outside back Peter Mata'utia said the boys were enjoying their time in Nelson, New Zealand but are focused on Saturday night’s game against the Warriors.

“It was a bit tough and wet but the boys are enjoying the time here in New Zealand and are really looking forward to the game on Saturday,” said Mata’utia after Wednesday’s training session in the pouring rain.

“All the backs were having some fun in the puddles at the end of the session catching some kicks and at the moment (rainy weather) it looks like it is going to be a forwards game up the middle and us backs will just need to chip in where we can”.

Mata’utia admitted that the team had some improving to do off the back of last week’s Charity Shield loss to the Rabbitohs.

“We definitely need to bring back that intent that we had in our defence last year, that is something that as a team we have prided ourselves upon over the past two years and we need to bring that back”.

“All the players’ know that Saturday night is their last chance to put their hand up for selection in round one and that the Warriors will present a touch challenge.

“It is the last trial match for us to fight for the spots that are open and it is good for the team to have the competition,” said Mata’utia.

“It is going to be a physical game, especially if it is still raining and it will be a big challenge for us but I am really looking forward to it”.
