St George Illawarra Dragons prop Leeson Ah Mau expects the new additions in the forward-pack to perform well in the trial fixture against Wynnum-Manly Seagulls at Pinklands Oval, Redlands on Saturday.

The Toa Samoa international is part of the travelling squad named for the clash against their Queensland Cup opposition and will be joined by new additions Siliva Havili, who can also play as hooker, and Russell Packer.

Other new recruits to the forward-pack including Mose Masoe and Sebastine Ikahihifo have been named in the Dragons squad to compete in the NRL Nines.

The Dragons ‘Player of the Year’ is keen to see his teammates in action and is also counting down the minutes until he too returns to the field competitively,” said Ah Mau.

“That was last year though and I am now focused on the season ahead.

“It’s been a long pre-season so it’ll be good to finally get a game to see where we’re at.

“We’ll see how we go in the trials and speaking for the forward-pack we’re working really well together.

“I’m glad guys like Mose Masoe and Russell Packer are on our team and I have played with both boys since we were all young.

“It’s good to have them both at training and they are pushing me to become even better as well which is what you need as a player.

“Russell is a competitive player who hates losing and everything he does is with total effort.

“From what I’ve seen he has been amongst the best trainers throughout the pre-season and I hope to see him go out there and perform well against Wynnum-Manly.

“He only knows one gear and that is one hundred percent.”
