St George Illawarra Dragons prop Mose Masoe is determined to etch his name on to the team list come the start of the new season.

The Toa Samoa international is in the midst of his first pre-season with the Red-and-Whites having arrived during the off-season and has been learning all he can off captain Ben Creagh and childhood friends Russell Packer and Leeson Ah Mau.

Masoe Named In NRL Nines Squad!

Masoe confesses it was a shock to be selected in the travelling NRL Nines squad by Head Coach Paul McGregor but is excited by the prospect of playing in the two-day tournament.

“It’s been a tough pre-season but nothing dissimilar to every other pre-season so far which involves blood, sweat and tears,” said Masoe.

“McGregor has been keeping it very basic, especially for us in the middle, which makes it quite easy for me – catch the ball and run while making sure I make my tackles.

“We have quite a funny pack and all the boys are having a good time getting to know one another.

“I’ve personally known Leeson for a long time as well as Russell so it’s pretty funny to be all playing in the same team now.

“I’ve been learning off both those guys as well as Ben Creagh as they all have NRL experience and I try to pick-up little things from each of them that I can add to my game.

“My goal is to make the 17-man team and that’s what I’m concentrating on for the upcoming season.

“It was a massive surprise being named in the Nines team as its usually a squad reserved for the fast guys.

“In my case I will probably have to come on and do a hit-up straight away.

“I don’t know what the exact plan is but the thing with McGregor is he always has something up his sleeve.”
