The St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday advised key staffing changes to the 2016 Football Management Team.

Ian Millward has accepted the position of Director of Rugby League Pathways and will take responsibility for the management of all aspects of the development of players and coaches across the St George Illawarra region from grassroots through to NRL.

This role will encompass the responsibilities previously held by Robert Finch who recently accepted a return to the NRL Referees Department, as well as the implementation of strategies to be introduced in line with the expected “Whole of Game” Football changes beginning in 2017.

Jason Demetriou will replace Millward as NRL Assistant and Illawarra Cutters Coach. Demetriou joins the Dragons from the North Queensland Cowboys where he was Assistant Coach in 2015 after successfully coaching the Queensland Residents team in 2014 and Northern Pride to the Minor Premiership in 2013 and Premiership in 2014 in the Queensland Cup.

The former utility played 10 seasons in the UK Super League - 54 games for Widnes Vikings (2001-2003) and 186 games for Wakefield Wildcats (2004-2010), a club he also captained for five seasons.

David Warwick will replace Peter Mulholland in the role of Recruitment Manager and will work closely with Executive Manager Football Ben Haran and Ian Millward on recruitment and development across all levels at the Club.

Warwick has spent the last 10 seasons as Recruitment Manager for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles; he has been involved in rugby league since 1994 in various roles including Junior Representative Coaching, Football Management and Recruitment.

“The departure of Peter and Robert opened up the opportunity for us to reshape our football department structure, particularly in line with the NRL’s strategic review of participation and elite development, and I am really pleased to have Jason and Dave join our staff, ” said Dragons Head Coach Paul McGregor.

“Dave is an extremely experienced recruitment manager and football administrator with high quality relationships across all levels of the game.

“Jason joins us from the Premiership winning Cowboys and will have a priority on the development of the team’s attack which was his predominant focus at the Cowboys.

“Ian Millward has had over 20 years’ experience in the game of rugby league in Australia and overseas and is appropriately educated and experienced to lead our continued investment and strategies in rugby league pathways given our role as a leading development club.”

Demetriou and Warwick will both respectively join the Dragons next week.
