St George Illawarra Dragons utility Jake Marketo is impressed by the amount of effort and commitment shown by his teammates on the field thus far.
The Holy Cross Rhinos junior, in the midst of his second season with the Red-and-Whites since his return, admits players are jostling for positions and doing whatever it takes to improve their chances for selection.
Marketo knows he must continue to knuckle-down and work hard if he is to continue improving and is happy to play his part in the team whether that be on or off the field.
“I want to build off what I did last year as games as such do not concern me so long as I know I am doing right by the Club,” said Marketo
“My goal is to continue doing what is best for this team and I know my own footy will improve because of it.
“There’s a lot of competition for places amongst the team at the moment which is good as it’s pushing everyone along to train at their best.
“The new players who have joined us this season are working hard and they have all bought into what we are trying to build here at the Club.
“Everyone is staying behind to go their extras and doing that little bit more to work on their fitness or doing whatever it is to better themselves.
“You have to do everything right to better your own game and I hope to get the chance to apply that in at least some of the trial games ahead of the new season.
“I know if I am doing everything correctly then it make the decision easier for the coaches to select me – all I can do at the moment is keep working hard.”
