The St George Illawarra Dragons proudly hosted the recently resurrected the Bargo Bunnies junior club at their fixture against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park recently.
The Macarthur Region club re-emerged after a seventy year hiatus in 2012 by a group of friends and a dedicated group of people who tried to get the juniors affiliated.
After a long three year period in which there was a criteria the Bunnies had to meet they finally became affiliated.
However, they were put in recess until they could prove their ability to field a team by early February 2015 and were only allowed to register players who had never played before.
The Club has managed to get enough players to field a full Under 6 team, almost an Under 7 and a few Under 8 and Under 9 teams.
The Bunnies were granted the opportunity to play in the 2015 season and have now managed to field an Under 6 side with 15 players, an Under 7 side with eight players and an Under 9 side that comprises of six eight-year-olds and four nine-year-olds.
None of the Bunnies’ Committee Members have children that can play for the Club as they simply want to give the children of the town the opportunity to play the great game of rugby league.
They have had amazing support from the community over the four years whilst they have been trying to get the Club up-and-running which they are very grateful of.
The Bunnies have also just been informed of their nomination for the NRL ‘Grassroots Club of the Year’.
The Dragons would like to congratulate to all the Bunnies’ Committee Members and volunteers for their hard work in their inaugural season.
