The Nations of Origin Rugby League Tournament was held across two days during the school holidays with the YUIN Team, representing the Shoalhaven area, taking out the tournament.

The initiative by the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) allows communities within NSW to represent their local indigenous nation while promoting reconciliation within the community.

The YUIN Nation finished first in their pool and subsequently went on to defeat Dharawal WADI WADI, Darug and Dunghutti in the finals.

The 2015 YUIN team consisted of students from Nowra High, Shoalhaven High, Bomaderry High, Ulladulla High, St Johns Catholic and Vincentia High.

Illawarra juniors Tyson Simpson, Drew Gough and Jayden Millard in addition to the youngest team member Austin Thompson were all standouts for the YUIN Nation.

As a direct result of last year’s tournament, police have developed and maintained a strong relationship and mentoring role with the young people, as well as an improvement in school attendance.
