St George Illawarra Dragons prop Dan Hunt was amongst the action at the annual Cancer Council Blue Mile Dash in Wollongong on Friday.

The Blue Mile Dash is a one mile (1.6km) corporate walk or run along Wollongong’s iconic ‘Blue Mile’, with teams of four battling it out to be the fastest to complete the course.

More than $15,000 was raised by local businesses will the going towards Dr Kerrie McDonald’s research project ‘Treating brain cancer more effectively’.

New treatments only work in some patients and those who do respond can quickly become resistant. Dr McDonald’s research aims to understand why this happens and create improved therapies.

One person is diagnosed with brain cancer every six hours, and one person dies from the disease every eight hours.

Brain cancer kills more children than any other disease and more people under 40 than any other cancer, yet it is the least understood and least funded of all cancers.
