St George Illawarra Dragons utility Peter Mata’utia has been named as fullback for the upcoming fixture against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Monday.

Head Coach Paul McGregor has named a 19-man squad for the match against the reigning Premiers with Mata’utia named in the custodian’s role in lieu of injured teammate Josh Dugan.

Dugan sustained a knee injury while on international debut for the Australia Kangaroos over the weekend and underwent MRI scans before being assessed by Dragons Medical Staff.

The NSW Blues representative will continue to be monitored throughout the week.

“Josh had an MRI scan and subsequent assessment from Dragons Medical Staff which suggests he has a significant contusion to the right thigh,” said Dragons Physiotherapist Dan Lawson.

“His knee is painful and swollen; however it appears he has no major ligamentous injury.

“He will have treatment throughout the week and a decision on his fitness for the upcoming game will be made later in the week.”
