St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team second-rower Jacob Host has called on his teammates to seize the moment against the Brisbane Broncos at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Friday.

The Young Dragons have succumbed to several injuries within their playing ranks in recent weeks including Luciano Leilua, Izaac Thompson and Jack Kavanagh.

Host, who was part of the touring Australian Schoolboys team last season, believes their respective replacements should take their opportunity to perform in front of a home crowd.

The Young Dragons were narrowly defeated by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs last round.

“The entire team were in the game for at least the first sixty minute and were in the grind giving it to them,” said Host.

“Unfortunately, the game slipped away from us towards the end of the game which let down all our good defensive work in the first half.

“There are a few players in the injury bay at the moment which is never good to see but it gives some of the other players a chance to have a crack against the Broncos this round.

“We’ve had some good games against the Broncos in recent seasons and I have no doubt that that will be the case once against on Friday.

“The team are keen to make amends in front of another home crowd and have trained well throughout the week.”
