The Illawarra Cutters were 34-12 winners over the North Sydney Bears at TG Miler Field, Marsfield on Saturday.
The Cutters scored six tries in a convincing display to round-off their pre-season trial preparations on a high note.
The Cutters took an early 18-12 lead heading into the halftime break and defended well in the second-half to prevent this hosts from adding to their half-time score.
The on-field display will cause a selection quandary for Head Coach Scott Logan when he finalises his opening round fixture line-up against the My Pritchard Mounties in a fortnight’s time.
"There were some good performances out there and without naming names at this stage a number of players put their hand up for our opening competition match,” said Logan.
“Our defence is improving as it had been poor at times in our previous trial against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs but we tidied things up a bit and I'm pleased with the improvement.
“We've still got a way to go, we're still coming to terms with our new structure this year, but overall we can be pleased with our improvement this week, and we'll be ready for what promises to be a very tough first up match v Mounties".
The Illawarra Cutters opening fixture of the new NSW Cup competition will be played at Aubrey Keech Reserve, Hinchinbrook at 3.00pm on Saturday, March 7.
Illawarra Cutters 34. Tries: Hunt, Wakeman, Crook, Glymin, McCarthy, Daniela. Goals: Crook (3/4), Henry (2/2).
