The St George Illawarra Dragons were up bright and early to lend a hand as part of Wollongong’s Australia Day Aquathon held on Monday.

A huge contingent of Dragons National Youth Competition team players were part of the ‘Kidz Aquafun’ component, which is about encouraging all children to have a go, with participation the main theme.

All Dragons players demonstrated encouraged this mentality first hand by joining the young competitors along the run leg and giving the little champions more motivation along the way to complete the course for many of the first time entrants.

Young Dragon prop Jay Gallagher, who attended last year, could not believe the number of children putting their hands up once again to tackle the course.

“It was fantastic to see so many young children looking to stay fit and healthy in such a great event and that many of the participants made the boys work hard to keep up along the course,” said Gallagher.

Along with the satisfaction of completing the Aquathon, all ‘KidsAqua’ participants were given a Dragons Cap, Backpack or Cooler bag from the players first hand on completion at the Dragons Community Marquee.
