St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team Head Coach Ben Hornby is excited by the prospect of taking sole responsibility of the playing squad in 2015.

The Dragons most-capped first-grade player previously shared the role last season with Dean Young and helped steer the team to a Preliminary Finals berth.

The Young Dragons have just finalised their first phase of pre-season training and Hornby admits he is happy with what he has witnessed from his playing group so far.

“They’ve been training very hard throughout this pre-season so far which spanned just over seven week during the initial phase,” said Hornby.

“They’ve been getting through everything I’ve thrown at them and that’s what pre-season is all about, trying to give yourself every chance to play when the new season rolls around.

“It was a season full of challenges last year and proved slightly harder than what I expected but it was a good year nonetheless.

“Over the entire season we had our ups and downs but we were all fairly happy with how it went, except for how it ended in the Preliminary Final.

“We’ve all learnt from that and it will spur us on for the upcoming season.”
