St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition halfback Adam Clune is impressed by his teammates efforts in 2014 despite being knocked out of grand final contention in the preliminary final round against the Brisbane Broncos.

The Shellharbour Sharks junior credits the experience of Co-Coaches Ben Hornby and Dean Young and the tireless efforts of his teammates.

"It was unfortunate not to make it to the Grand Final, but to come within a game of it was a good effort," said Clune.

"We had a few injuries late in the season and the boys that stepped in really did well and helped us forge on.

"We were slow off the blocks in that last clash and Brisbane took advantage of it and got a roll on in their momentum.

"We had a few penalties and dropped ball which didn't help us at all.

"It's a long season and you start preparing for the year the November before, but we've had a successful season despite not making the grand final."
