St George Illawarra Dragons second-rower Joel Thompson made 23 appearances in his debut season for the Club this year, missing only one game against the New Zealand Warriors in round 7.

The three-time Indigenous All-Star started the season as an interchange player before moving into the second-row, then the centres before later returning to the second-row.

In his final move to the back row Thompson found form.

Thompson played 14 games there until the end of the season and played the full 80 minutes of all but one of them, when he played 75 minutes.

Thompson scored three tries, all as a back-rower, made six line-breaks, eight offloads and 42 tackle breaks.

He proved particularly hard to stop against the North Queensland Cowboys in round 17, when he made eight tackle breaks from 12 runs.

Thompson made a total of 253 runs and 2,215 metres, the third most of a non-backline player, and made 503 tackles, and only 30 missed tackles.
