St George Illawarra Dragons Head Coach Paul McGregor says it's pleasing to gain a comfortable 28-12 win over the Wests Tigers, though the Red and Whites were conservative in the early minutes of the second half.

McGregor commends the efforts of five-eighth Gareth Widdop, who took control of the game early and was impressive bagging himself two tries.

"Gareth had one of his better games, his approach was good and the way he spoke about things during the week at training really showed what we are capable of," McGregor said.

"There are two players there in 6 and 7, and Benji was under a lot of pressure, so Gareth really stepped up there and took control.

"I'm confortable with Benji, he's a two hundered game player; I've said that from day one; he knows how to put the emotions aside and play for the team."
