The St George Illawarra Dragons would like to congratulate all teams that competed in the Sam Hammond Shield on Tuesday.

The Sam Hammond Shield saw 27 teams taking part in what has been a popular day on the calendar for a number of years now, which has led to making this a competitive day for the girls involved.

Sam is a local Illawarra player from the Helensburgh Tigers RLFC and is now one of the top Rugby League players in the world of Women’s Rugby League.

She was an integral part of the Australia Jillaroo’s winning the 2013 World Cup, finishing as both the top try scorer (eight tries), and points scorer (32 points).

As girls rugby league continues to grow throughout the country, we now have some progressions for our Junior and Intermediate divisions.

The Junior Division for years 7 and 8 students was taken out by Kiama High School defeating Warrawong High School in the final.

The Intermediate Division for years 9 and 10 students will see Illawarra Sports High School and Sholahaven High School in week 6 of this term, with an Illawarra/South Coast Representative team, selected to play in the Girls Secondary All Schools on Wednesday, July 30 at Whalan Reserve, Penrith.

Kiama will now go on to represent the Illawarra/South Coast in the Captains Cup Finals on Thursday, August 21 at Macquarie University Sports Grounds, Sydney.
