The St George Illawarra Dragons were defeated 36-nil by the Parramatta Eels at Pirtek Stadium, Parramatta on Saturday.

Head Coach Steve Price had made several changes to the line-up announced midweek headlined by the selection of Benji Marshall as halfback in lieu of Sam Williams.

The New Zealand international was joined by fellow Club debutant Peter Mata'utia on the wing after Jason Nightingale failed to overcome a knee injury.

Dragons prop Mike Cooper was also named on the interchange as replacement for Jack Stockwell who had been ruled out earlier in the week with a minor hairline fracture in his foot.

The Dragons entered the fixture in search of their first win in three outings but found themselves left scoreless at fulltime.

The visitors had been forced to absorb several sets of attacking play in the initial twenty minutes and did so successfully.

Yet they were ultimately undone thereafter by Eels winger Ken Sio who crossed the stripe in the 23rd minute.

Eels halfback Chris Sandow converted to make it 6-nil.

The Dragons had earlier been disallowed a try in the 15th minute after the video referee adjourned centre Gerard Beale had not controlled the ball upon planting it.

The home side soon doubled their points advantage on the half hour mark through five-eighth Corey Norman who capitalised off a Dragons defensive lap to run 70-metres and score.

Sandow converted once more to make it 12-nil.

The Eels furthered their lead with two converted tries following the resumption of play to make the scoreboard read 24-nil.

Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne cross the stripe first courtesy of a darting run in the 44th minute before Sio did likewise to bag his second five minutes later.

Sandow converted both his attempts at the tee.

Eels second-rower Pauli Pauli compounded the visitors woes with a four-pointer of his own just after the hour mark.

Sandow again converted to make it 30-nil.

The home side struck one final try eight minutes from time through Hayne who notched his second of the afternoon.

Sandow converted to make it 36-nil.
