St George Illawarra Dragons prop Mike Cooper has taken the time to thank his mum for all the things she has done for him to pursue his dream of playing first-grade rugby league.

The Warrington Academy junior arrived at the Red-and-Whites during the off-season and has started in all eight first-grade games to date with his new Club.

Cooper laments that while his mum will be unable to watch him in person when he takes to the field for his ninth fixture against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park this Sunday, she will be in his mind nonetheless.

“I remember Mum always taking me to training, she never really had any time off because straight after school she would take me to soccer and footy training,” said Cooper.

“I’m very close with my mum, she would do anything for us and I do miss her quite a lot.

“She has a lot of good advice, probably ‘listen to her’ is one that sticks.

“My brother and I tend to join together for presents, so we tend to send her to a spa for a few days or get something nice for her.

“We celebrate Mother’s Day back in March back home, so I’m not telling her it’s Mother’s Day here, then I might have to get two gifts!

“However, she will be in my thoughts on the day as she is a very special person to me.”
