The Illawarra Steelers Junior Representative teams could not cope with the terrible conditions at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

Coming up against the Balmain Tigers, the Harold Matthews (U16s) and SG Ball (U18s) came up against a strong side and could not adapt to the conditions.

First up were the Harold Matthews teams and it was only four minutes into the game before the first try went to the home side after a sweeping movement led to the first points being scored out wide.

It was clear that Balmain had come to play and after 15 minutes, Balmain had scored 24 points.

At this point it was the chance for Illawarra to try to end the season on a high, but Balmain weren’t letting the Steelers into the game.

The second half was a lot more even early on before the errors from the away side caught up with them.

At the end of the game, Illawarra had remained scoreless and Balmain ran out comfortable winners.

Next up were the SG Ball squads and the first half was a very close affair. Both teams traded sets with the rain affecting the play as both teams struggled to play expansive football.

The Balmain side settled into the conditions better and going into the half-time break, the Tigers had a ten point lead.

The second-half was a bit more lop-sided as the home side asserted their dominance and ran away with the game by thirty points.

Both Illawarra teams were unable to score any points this week in a disappointing end to the season.
