St George Illawarra Dragons halfback Sam Williams believes several small errors proved costly in the 36-20 loss to the Brisbane Broncos at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Friday.
However, the Cooma Colts junior has cast this aside due to possibility of taking to the field with returning fullback Josh Dugan who is expected to be named in this week’s line-up against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the SCG on Saturday.
Dugan has been sidelined with a knee injury sustained against the Rabbitohs in the pre-season Charity Shield fixture and Williams knows his return will prove a boost for the team.
“We didn’t do enough to get the win tonight, but we’ll go out against the Rabbitohs next week all fired up,” said Williams.
“Josh Dugan will be back in the side eventually but Adam Quinlan has been sensational at fullback and his performance has been impressive week after week.
“Dugan and myself have only played together a little bit in the Charity Shield but it would be nice to get out there and form a bit of a combination with him.
“I think we’re a different side since we went up against the Rabbitohs in the Charity Shield and we’ve had some time to click.
“We had a lot of new faces when we met the Rabbitohs last time and it was the first time we’d played a game together.
“We’re a lot better as a team than we were then and hopefully that will show in the results next week.
“Obviously we were disappointed with our performance in the Charity Shield but that’s in the past now and those combinations are improving more every week.
“Hopefully we can take it to a new level against South Sydney next week.”
